【NIIGATA】"Poppiyaki" - a classic snack at festival in Niigata!
How can I express this snack...OK, I know!
・Steamed and fluffy. ・A long line at the summer festival.
That is the first impression.

Speaking of Niigata's festival, "ポッポ焼き (Poppaki)"! There is no doubt that every event in the prefecture will open a Poppiyaki store, it is an unmistakably Niigata soul food. In fact, when people from Niigata come to a festival in Tokyo, they always say, "Why there's no poppoyaki ?!".
The surprisingly soft "feeling chewy" and "simple taste of brown sugar" give it a somewhat nostalgic taste that people of all ages love. We are from outside the prefecture, but when we look at the stalls of Poppoyaki at each event, the sweet scent of brown sugar attracts us and just line up.

What is Poppoyaki?
"Poppiyaki" which is familiar to Niigata residents, is a sweet that can be found mainly in the Shimoetsu region in Niigata Prefecture, and is said to have originated in Shibata City.
The fact is that brown sugar, water, carbonic acid, and alum were added to soft flour and baked in a special baking machine. Also called 蒸気パン (steamed bread).
There are quite a few poppoyaki stalls in one festival, but the materials and methods of making them is different.
Of course it now packed up and sold at supermarkets but It will be better to experience the original place right?
